Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
August 28, 2008

Dear Friends and Family of the Grub Report,

Last week I signed up to do something I've never done before: run a 5k. And you know what? I hate running. Like, I really, really, HATE it! However, I'm not running (or walking, if the mind is willing, but the shins are weak) this race for pure pleasure or personal glory. I'm not running it to get a good time or a toned butt. I'm running it to raise awareness and money for breast cancer.

My family lost a beloved friend to breast cancer when I was in the sixth grade. She was one of the most vibrant people I will ever know and her death affected my life greatly.

One in eight women will be stricken with breast cancer in her lifetime and the more we raise, the more the San Francisco Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure can give back to fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in our own community and support the national search for a cure.

Because of the money raised over the years, I now know so many more breast cancer survival stories than I did in 1985. I don't ask for much at the Grub Report -- just that you read, laugh, and enjoy what I have to say -- but now I'm asking you to please join me in the fight by pledging in support of my participation in the Race.

Your tax-deductible contribution will fund innovative outreach and awareness programs for medically underserved communities in the Bay Area and national breast cancer research. It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message.

I truly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress. Thank you so much for your time and support. Every step counts.

Thank you,
Stephanie V.W. Lucianovic
